“The best of what the World Wide Web has to offer”
Chantal Akerman obituary
Chantal Akerman was commonly described as a Belgian film-maker, but this label hardly does justice to the breadth of her identity as an artist, nor to her nomadic nature. As well as filming in her native country, Akerman, who has died aged 65, apparently after taking her own life, worked extensively in the US, as well as in eastern Europe, Israel, Mexico, China and elsewhere, making fiction, documentary, experimental and essay films. She also made video and installation art. Click HERE for full article
Pictus Interruptus and Other Notes on the Selfie
While HOLO explores the people and work covered on CAN, it only follows that the magazine should spark conversations on the web. Moving forward, we will occasionally be inviting relevant thinkers and practitioners to augment the discussion happening within our pages. The first such contributor is Pablo Garcia, who is a research artist, co-producer of the excellent NeoLucida initiative, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Contemporary Practices at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In response to the ‘New Perspectives’ theme of HOLO 1’s PERSPECTIVE section, Pablo has prepared a comprehensive analysis of the selfie. Click HERE for full article

He is then offered the coaching job at a small Nevada college. He brings along some players, who are a bit odd but good. Like Swish who unknown to the rest of the team is a girl. Preacher, who's being sought by some nefarious characters. And D.C., who's a fugitive. And along with some of the students at the college, he turns them into a contender. In order to give the team the respect they deserve and some exposure, Greene schemes to try and get the number 1 team led by Bo Winnegar, to play them.
Chloë's Scene
Chloë looks up, wrapping her arms tight around herself in an instinctive gesture of protection, as if to reduce the exposed surface area of her body even as she manages a smile that is shy and skeptical and indulgent all at the same time. It’s not like this hasn’t happened before, but it’s still a little, you know, weird. Click HERE for the full article
